About this activity
Make your way to Akureyri Airport 15 minutes before your flight, and then listen to a quick safety briefing before following your pilot into your GippsAero GA8 Airvan. Make yourself comfortable in one of the 7 luxurious seats, put on your headset and get ready to soar into the skies above Akureyri.
Watch the busy urban sights of the city fade from your view through the large windows, and then turn your attention to the raw beauty of the Icelandic landscape stretched out around you. On this tour we will fly through the dramatic landscape of The Game of Thrones and Oblivion.
The route starts by flying over the Godafoss waterfall, from there we will head to Lake Mývatn, with its numerous scenic attractions and geothermal phenomena. From Lake Mývatn we fly over Vatnajökull National Park to see Dettifoss, a spectacular waterfall where cascades plunge from a height of 144 feet (44 meters) into a narrow canyon.
From the Dettifoss waterfall we follow the magnificent canyons, before turning homeward bound for Akureyri. Relax and take in the north-east coastline as the Troll Peninsula mountain range comes to view in the west.
