Day 1: Arrival at Zvartnots airport, transfer to hotel, Yerevan. Rest. Overnight.
Day 2: Breakfast. A half-day city tour. Visits to Matenadaran – the depository of ancient manuscripts, the Museum of History of Armenia, Tsitsernakaberd – the Monument and Museum built in memory of the victims of Armenian Genocide in 1915. Optional - Visit to Yerevan Brandy Factory where you’ll have the opportunity to taste Armenian brandy. In the second half of the day we continue to Ejmiatsin – the center of Armenian Apostolic church, the Museum of St. Ejmiatsin Cathedral, Hripsime Martyrium church. On the way back, visit to the ruins of Zvartnots Temple – the 7th century architectural pearl. Return to Yerevan hotel, overnight.
Day 3: Breakfast. Tour to Khor-Virap, the 5th century monastery, with a view of Ararat Valley and Ararat Mountain, the place of pilgrimage of all Armenians; this is where St. Gregory the Illuminator was thrown into an underground dungeon and imprisoned for preaching Christianity. Drive to Vayots Dzor province to visit Areni winery. The Areni-1 is a 6100-year-old winery that was discovered in 2007 in the Areni-1 cave complex in the village of Areni. Optional - Wine tasting and lunch. Continue to Noravank Monastery Complex, the 12-13th cc. Drive back to Yerevan.
Day 4: Breakfast. Departure for a half-day tour to Garni – the Pagan Temple, 1st century AD, the Geghard Cave Monastery, 12-13th cc., carved into a solid rock. Drive back to Yerevan. An option is to visit the Museum of Parajanov, the Museum of Martiros Saryan.
Day 5: Breakfast. Drive to Lake Sevan. Visit to Noradouz, the biggest cemetery of khachkars (cross-stones) in Armenia, dating back to 7-10th cc. Continue tour to the 8-9th cc. Sevan Monastery on the peninsula. Lunch on Sevan Lake (Optional). Drive back to Yerevan.
Day 6: Breakfast. Free day.
Day 7: Breakfast. Excursion to Erebouni Fortress, also known as Arin-Berd, a fortified city of the ancient kingdom of Urartu, located in what is present-day Yerevan. Erebouni was founded by King Argishti I in 782 BC. Tour around museum. Visit to Vernissage market where you can find the best examples of Armenian folk art, unique jewelry, exclusively handmade masterpieces of craftsmanship. Visit Vernissage and take a piece of Armenia with you. In the evening OPTIONAL farewell dinner at a traditional Armenian restaurant where you will see how Armenian Lavash (included into the intangible heritage of UNESCO) is baked in tondir (oven) and taste it. You will listen to the wonderful sounds of Armenian Duduk and will have the opportunity to dance Kochari, both included in the UNESCO list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Day 8: Transfer to the airport. Departure.
