About this activity
You will meet your tour guide and the others on the tour at our office in the Devonport Ferry Terminal. (Our office can be hard to find but if you come to the end of the terminal as if you were catching a ferry you will find us sharing space with the Ferry Ticket office)
You will then sign in, store any bags you want to leave at our office and be fitted with a helmet. We have sun block available for you to use in the Summer and have gloves and jackets available in the Winter. You then go with your guide to the area where you will be given a safety briefing and learn to ride a Segway. Your guides are all experienced riders who will make sure you have time to practice riding before going on the tour. Once everyone is comfortable riding the Segway you'll be off on your 1½ hour Scenic tour to the summit of Mt. Victoria.
As you make your way around the Waterfront of the inner harbour it may be busy with yachts and ferries or ships making their way to the port in Auckland city. Your guide will point out places of historic significance for example, 'Elizabeth House' originally a hotel that was taken over by the Navy at the time of WW11 turning it into the barracks for the Wrens who stayed there until 1991. .
You'll continue on through the back streets of the village past beautifully restored Victorian Villas, and parks where you will have time for some Segway fun before 'gliding' to the summit of Mt. Victoria where you'll enjoy the spectacular 360 degree views of Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf. Your guide will point out some of the islands some now bird sanctuaries, some inhabited and yet others that just make great mooring for the many yachts that cruise the Hauraki Gulf including Rangitoto our youngest volcanic cone rising majestically from the ocean floor. You'll be looking out over the village houses and the Naval Base as Devonport is home to the Navy. You'll learn about the Iconic mushrooms and there will be lots of opportunities to take great photos of your experience, you'll need some of you on a Segway to brag to your family and friends about when you return home.
Then it's time to ride back to our base on Devonport Wharf. If this is your first Segway Experience you will be left with the Segway Smile, a Smile from ear to ear that stays there.
