About this activity
This full day tour out of Auckland takes you to Waitomo Caves and Rotorua. Travel out of Auckland and onto the main Southern Highway through small rural townships steeped in early pioneer history. See New Zealands largest dairy and sheep farming province. Travel the outskirts of Hamilton City via small farming settlements towards the King country, home place of the Maori Monarchy. You will then arrive into Waitomo Caves where you will take in the beauty of the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves: a world-famous cave formation, climaxed by drifting silently in a boat through a Glow Worm Cavern lit up with thousands of tiny Glow Worm lights. Drive through Cambridge and what was the main frontier settlement for the British constabulary during the Maori land wars, which is now a popular horse breeding area. See Rotorua- New Zealands highest city, 305 meters (1000 feet) above sea level, located inside the rim of a volcanic crater - an area of great geothermal activity. Afterwards, we arrive at the Agrodome complex where you will be picked up by a shuttle to transport you to the Polynesian Spa where you can enjoy a nice soak in their naturally heated mineral spas (towels included). Overlooking Lake Rotorua, the Deluxe Lake Spa is Polynesian Spas premium hot mineral bathing and relaxation area. You will be picked up from the Polynesian Spa. Travel via Rotorua lakefront through the Government Gardens, which contain large formal gardens which house the historic Tudor style museum and blue baths. Indulge in the Te Puia Maori Concert- inside the Te Puia sacred Marae (meeting house) surrounded by the carvings of the ancestors. Be treated to the perfect harmonies, Poi, Haka, and Tititorea (stick dance). Lastly, we will head to Te Puia Thermal Reserve and Maori Arts & Crafts Institute - Rotoruas most famous attractions, with wood carvings and weaving displays in the Maori village. Next, see the Thermal Valley with the famous Pohutu geyser, fumaroles, and boiling mud pools. An opportunity to wander through the nocturnal Kiwi House (time permitting). Return to Auckland in the evening at approximately 08:10 pm, hotel/motel drop-offs will commence.
