West Coast Scenic Wine Tasting Day Tour from Auckland

About this activity
You'll be picked up at your main city area accommodation at around 10.00am for the approx' 40-45 minute drive out West to the Kumeu wine region.
Your personalised tour of 'Kumeu Wine Country' and our spectacular West Coast starts with a talk about the type of wines you are most interested in to enable us to customise the selection of wineries to best suit your tastes... reds, whites, sweet, dry, exported or exclusive or all of the above! Because we don't all like the same wines this tour does not always visit the same wineries. We do our best to use our nearly 20 years of experience to select these wineries based on your tastes and interests. For example we could visit the vineyard with NZ's oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines...!
Our tours are suitable for anyone interested in wine and tailored to all levels of experience.
All the wineries we select from are family owned and operated, some are 3rd generation... we offer you the largest selection of wineries.
During the tour, usually in the morning, you'll visit to the wild west Tasman Sea overlooking magnificent Muriwai black-sand beach and the world renown ‘Takapu’ gannet colony where you can easily and safely get up close to these large sea birds & their nests, eggs & chicks (birds nesting approx' July through to May/June the next year).
After a winery or two, and all the fresh sea air, it’s time for lunch. You can sit, relax & enjoy your ‘open menu, main course’ lunch (included) and wine tasting at a small, family owned & operated, award wining winery restaurant.
In the afternoon continue sampling your choice of gold medal and trophy winning wines at local cellar doors before we return you to your city accommodation at around 4.00ish.
For more detail... the West Coast tour is your chance to experience NZ’s regional variety with wines made from grapes grown in all the main regions including local Auckland vineyards plus Gisborne & Hawke’s Bay in the North Island as well as Marlborough (our largest and most famous wine region) & Central Otago in the South Island.
You can discover our internationally acclaimed ‘new world, cool climate’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with its zingy, fresh, fruit led flavours. Select from other white wines such as Pinot Gris, oaked or unoaked Chardonnay, Dry and 'Off Dry' (but not usually sweet) Riesling & Gewurztraminer, Viognier or the even more unusual Albarino and sometimes Arnies & Marsanne. We have several beautiful "Summer-In-A-Glass" dry Rose's made in the area too...
Some of the reds offered for tasting include our world renown Pinot Noir as well as Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Cabernet Sauvignon blended or single grape wines, Syrah (Shiraz in Australia) and sometimes Montepulciano & Pinotage.
We can also introduce you to our "Sparkling" wines, sometimes "Methode Traditionelle" (same as 'Champagne') sometimes "Dessert" wine and "Port" are available too.
