In December 2000, the Old City of Baku, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower, became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

You'll pass through the popular local restaurants, which are renowned for their traditional breakfasts with national bread "tandir" which is baked in authentic ovens. Also you will pass through the souvenir shops that sell antiquarians. Continue walking to the Maiden tower, an iconic building which served as a fire temple in the 7th century then as a defending construction, as a lighthouse in the 19th century and finally it is a museum and observation deck from where opens a beautiful view to all city.
Next destination will be Shirvanshahs Palace museum where you will learn about history of Baku and Azerbaijan especially about the medieval period. You'll then head to old caravansaries which were served as a hotel for traders and travelers in old times. You'll walk to the Museum of Miniature Books which is the only museum of miniature books in the world and where you can see a 17th-century copy of the Quran, a 13th-century book published by Peter Schöffer, the three smallest books in the world measuring 2mm x 2mm that can only be read with the use of a magnifying glass and rare ancient religious books. Wander through tucked away mazes, hidden streets that even locals don't know about and the narrow streets which were used in many popular Soviet movies.
