Gothic tour with visit to the Santa María del Mar Church
This guided tour will take you to discover the oldest part of Barcelona: the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic in Catalan).
The name derives from the presence of numerous beautiful Gothic monuments within it. However, the traces of the ancient Roman village - called Barcino - are very visible, and it is surrounded by stone walls. The Gothic Quarter is the only area of the Catalan capital that is completely preserved as it would have stood in the Middle Ages, with buildings, squares and streets which one must really walk through to fully appreciate in all their glory.
The tour continues in another district of the city, La Ribera, where the wonderful Basilica of St. Mary of the Sea stands. Built between 1329 and 1383, it is the most emblematic example of the pure Catalan Gothic style.
The walk ends at a local restaurant where you can grab two tapas and a drink. After, you can choose to continue to discover this part of the city on your own time and visit the Picasso Museum. Housed in five medieval palaces in the Gothic Quarter, the museum houses one of the largest collections of works by Pablo Picasso and it is one of the most famous and visited museums in Barcelona.
