Full-Day Small-Group Cheese- and Cider-Tasting Tour from Bayeux
1 day
Small Group
Full Day
About this activity
Your tour starts with hotel pickup in Bayeux. With your driver-guide, head to your first stop, where you'll try an authentic Camembert made with raw milk at the last-standing farm in the village of Camembert that makes the cheese on site. Then go to the Livarot Dairy where they make awesome ancient cheeses of Normandy.
Enjoy hearty samples of the farm-made cheeses with a glass of local cider.
Then head to a dairy that also works with raw milk, and learn how to recognize the differences between cheeses. If you select the lunch option when booking, this takes place next outside at a local village, weather permitting. Designed for those without any dietary restrictions, lunch consists of local Normandy products.
In the afternoon, the focus of your tour switches to Normandy's apple and pear beverages—hard apple cider, hard pear cider, pommeau, and calvados. Depending on the availability of the producers, you'll visit a traditional cider farm or an estate wine-oriented cider maker near Cambremer
If you are not too tired after all this, a small surprise awaits you before your tour ends with return to Bayeux for drop-off, Beuvron-en-Auge of of France's nicest villages.

With an extra day in Bayeux, we chose this tour to learn more about this part of Normandy. Etienne picked us up exactly on time. He drove us through the Paye DAuge, in Normandy, through tiny towns and villages we would never have found on our own. The Camembert Cheese Tour was entertaining and educational. Etienne was educated as an agronomist, so he shared many interesting facts with us. We visited the ONLY farm left in Normandy that still makes its own Camembert cheese! Etienne provided us with a delicious homemade lunch that he made himself, even 6 hour cooked rice pudding ! Lunch was served on a small farm, amid the black and white cows as neighbors ! The afternoon Calvados Tour was fun, also ! Who knew that so many apple varieties went into the making of Calvados. A surprise visit to Beuvron-en-Auge, a most beautiful small village in France was a special unexpected treat ! This all day tour was one of our favorites of the 26 Viator Tours we have taken ! Etienne's kindness and extensive knowledge made the difference !
This tour exceeded our expectations in so many ways. We visited four places with just one another couple. The guide, Etienne, was a professional in the field of agriculture so not only did we see camembert and cider in production, but we also learned so much about the two products and their growth and development. We also liked the fact that for each product we visited a small family operation as well as a more sophisticated one. The 'hands on' family stops were our favorite, imagine being with the cows who provided the milk of the cheese that we saw in the making and walking through the apple orchard where the family was busy harvesting, washing and crushing apples! It was a great day, well organized and lead by the perfect guide.
Totally loved our tour with Etienne. Very caring, well thought out and personable. Would do again.
