About this activity
Your guide and private vehicle will pick you up at 9:00am from your hotel in Beijing. Your first destination is the Beijing Zoo and Beijing Aquarium. The zoo and its aquarium has over 450 species of land animals and over 500 species of marine animals.
As the home for 14,500 animals, the zoo was founded in 1906 during the late Qing dynasty. Like many of Beijing's parks, the zoo's grounds resemble classical Chinese gardens, with flower beds amidst natural scenery. Beijing Aquarium in the zoo is a must see place, it is widely-recognized as the country's top attraction, and it is actually the largest inland aquarium in the world. The aquarium features thousands of different aquatic species - man-eating fishes, precious Chinese sturgeons, huge sea elephants and fierce sharks are among some of the highlights. You can also enjoy shows performed by the dolphins, sea lions and whales in the aquarium's Ocean Theater. The highlight of the day is the electrifying jelly fish, displayed under neon colored lighting. These magical creatures look like a living form of abstract art.
After, you will head to the Drum and Bell towers. Stop at a local restaurant for a delicious Chinese lunch. Then move to the The Bell and Drum Towers, the central timepieces for Beijing in Ming and Qing Dynasties, with the bells beaten in the morning and the drums beaten at night. The sound would spread for miles in previous years. When visiting, you can climb onto the drum tower to have a birds-eye view to admire the entire city, and watch the activity of knocking the drum performances.
Afterward, go to the old Beijing Hutong Street to take the fun rickshaw to explore the local allays and communities. A trip through the Hutongs will give you a glimpse of authentic Chinese life. And one of the most fun way to see this is with a rickshaw ride.
At the end of the trip you are free for personal exploration or your guide will drive you back to your Beijing city hotel.

We opted for a different experience, visiting the Zoo and the Aquarium. Roy was an amazing guide, he speaks perfect English, and we had a great cultural introduction about China and Beijing. The Aquarium is a nice place to visit, and the Zoo I believe it was just OK. We loved the Hutong experience, and simply visiting a house and the small park besides the Bell Tower was what made our day.
