Badaling Great Wall

The Great Wall of China is the longest man-made structure in the world. In fact, the length of all Chinese defense walls built over the last 2000 years is approximately 50,000 kilometres, while the Earth’s circumference is only 40,000 kilometres! Badaling was the first section of the Wall to be open to tourists in 1957. It is the best-preserved section of the Wall, built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and has an average altitude of over 1000 meters (3282 feet). Once a military stronghold, its steep slopes and winding nature made it very difficult for enemy armies to cross.
