Beijing Zoo, occupying a total area of 89 hectares, is located in the West City District of Beijing. It was founded in 1906 in Qing Dynasty where used to be an imperial manor. Beijing Zoo has the biggest animal collections in China and it has been the home of Giant Panda Beer, one of the top 10 most endangered animal species in the world. Beijing Zoo is also one of most important zoological research and breeding centres in China.

Beijing Aquarium (Beijing Haiyangguan) is located in the northeastern corner of Beijing Zoo, was opened to the public in 1999. Composing of six halls and with a total area of 35,000 square metres, it is the biggest inland aquarium in the world. It houses a wide range of fish species.
