Stop At: Simatai Great Wall, Gubeikou Town, Beijing 101508 China

Around 10.30 am, you will arrive to the beautiful Gubei Water Town, where your driver will get your entrance ticket. You will cross the town to reach Simatai Great Wall at the other side, and don’t worry because you will have time on your way back to visit it.

Once crossed the town, you can hike up the sheer sides of the mountain by yourself to reach Simatai or take a cable car to the summit (at your own cost). Once you reach the Great Wall, you will be amazed by how untouched and well preserved this section remains since Ming Dynasty. There are almost no hawkers at Simatai, unlike the ones you are likely to find at Badaling, just a few windswept old ladies selling postcards, ice creams and cold bottles of water.

The entire wall is yours to explore, and you can enjoy it at your own pace. As you walk along the 5.4-kilometers trek that straddles Beijing City and Hebei Province, you will realize how difficult it was to build this incredible feat of architecture. You have to check your watch to calculate the time to go back.

After coming down from the wall, you can walk around Gubei Water Town, a rare natural old town with a combination of mountains, water and ancient dwellings. With a history of thousands of years, this town possesses an old-fashioned simplicity and elegance. Row upon row of houses, old quartzite streets and long Hutongs characterize the style and features of the old town. You can have your lunch in this lovely town (at your own cost).

At 3:00 pm your driver will drive you back to Beijing to drop you off in your hotel in Beijing city centre at 4:30 pm
