About this activity
Your tour starts from your accommodation. Head toward Northern Serbian province of Vojvodina. An hour of your ride you’ll spend enjoying the colorful landscapes of the Pannonian plane and hear stories about the turbulent history of this area. You reach Fruška gora, the only mountain in this region. The thick Lyndon forests served as a perfect hiding place for 16 medieval Orthodox monasteries that have nested within it.

You will visit one of the monasteries and head towards Sremski Karlovci. A quiet, Baroque town where time has stopped will impress you with its small houses, Baroque churches and palaces, gardens and fountains, but with its impressive history as well.

You will visit the Chapel of Peace, where the peace treaty was signed, the main square, the Four Lions Fountain, The Karlovci Gymnasium (High School), Town Hall, Roman Catholic Church, Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, Patriarchy, the Serbian Orthodox Theological Seminary. You’ll taste two of the most famous products: the famous Bermet wine and Kuglof cakes, a touch of German tradition brought to Karlovci by German settlers in the 18th century.

Your next stop is Petrovaradin Fortress. One of the largest strongholds in Europe, still preserved, covers the surface of 100 ha. Built by the Austrian Empire in 17th-18th centuries, it played a significant role in defending the Middle European countries from Ottoman attacks. You’ll walk through the fortress, passing through some of its gates, and see some of the interesting places on the top of it like City Museum, old Military Barracks and the Clock Tower and enjoy the view over the Danube and the city of Novi Sad.

It is the second largest city in Serbia, with its typical Middle European appearance and proud history of being a cultural and intellectual center of the Serbs in Austro-Hungarian Empire, for which it earned a name – Serbian Athens. Here we will see: Museum of Vojvodina and Dunavski park, the largest green area in the city, the beautiful Neo-Romantic Serbian Orthodox Bishop’s Palace, and we will visit the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. George from the 18th century with its invaluable iconostasis painted by famous Serbian painter Paja Jovanovic. You will walk through the main street further on, enjoying the 18th and 19th-century architecture as well as endless rows of cafes and restaurants and you reach the Liberty Square, a central point in the city. Here you find The Town Hall, Roman Catholic Cathedral, Finance Palace, and the Neo-Classical edifice of oldest city hotel Vojvodina. You then pass by the Serbian National Theater and reach the city Synagogue, beautiful Hungarian Secession-style building, one of the largest European synagogues to be preserved.

Then take a break and free time or a traditional Serbian lunch (at own expense), shopping and enjoying Novi Sad and, at the arranged time, get back into the vehicle and head back to Belgrade.

This tour was awesome. It was perfectly organized and executed. We were picked up on time, van was very comfortable and new. Our tour guide Marko is such a lovely and knowledge person. The driver drove safely and reached destination on time. This tour is just a perfect mix of culture and city. Everything that is described in the tour description was delivered as promised. There was enough time for everything, approx.. 2 hours in Novi Sad, but that’s really sufficient. Marko, thank you very much. You rock!

Jelica was our guide and it was an amazing day, she made sure that the trip was not rushed and we got to spend enough time. Definitely ask her for lunch suggestions, she took us to an amazing restaurant. Do book this tour. The city and the sights are great and the towns are small but great architecture and history. A must see.

The tour was about 7 hours long and was a great introduction to the Serbian countryside taking into account, monasteries, forts and two historic towns. The guide, Aleksander, was very informative in explaining the complex and detailed history of the country and always helpful.

The best part of the tour, apart from locations as obvious, is Guide who is knowledgeable enough to explain about the history of the places. I highly recommend for Solo travelers to meet and explore the beauty of Serbia.

Marko is an excellent guide! He is very knowledgeable about all things Serbia, including politics. In spite of the weather, this was one of my most enjoyable tours I've ever experienced. Thanks so much!

We had a great time. We enjoyed seeing the monasteries and going to Stremski Karlovci but most especially loved Novi Sad. It was beautiful. Plus the fact that our tour guide Alexander was very abreast and knowledgeable made it even more interesting. We would kove to go back to Novi Sad someday. Was a very interesting trip and I did enjoy it, the tour guide was very knowledgeable on Serbia. The only thing that makes me not give it 4 stars was the really late lunch - could be a European thing but I was starving by 2 and then waiting another hour to eat was kind of tough :-

There is a lot to see in this area, and this tour of Sremski Karlovci, Petrovaradin Fortress, and Novi Sad is a great option for a daytrip from Belgrade. Our tour guide, Aleksandar, is very knowledgeable about this part of Serbia and its history. We took 3 different tours from Aleksandar during our stay in Serbia and they were all different and all worth while. We really enjoyed hearing his stories and his perspective on modern Serbia. We also have to give Aleksandar extra points for unflappability - during the visit to Novi Sad, a storm with very high winds erupted, he shepherded our group to safety, and we all had a delicious lunch while waiting for the storm to subside.

Good, easy paced tour with Alexander. He didn't want to talk about growing up in Serbia war years in the 1990's, which he said made him mad and sad. But, I wanted to find out what the local people think about the war , NATO and now. Alexander is a good guide, well spoken and easy going guy. Do this tour as it's great to get out of Belgrade for awhile and see Novi Sad. Great Day Out !! Enjoy !
