The cathedral, located near Lake Como, is one of the most important buildings in the region. It is commonly described as the last Gothic cathedral built in Italy: construction on it, on the site of the earlier Romanesque cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Maggiore, began in 1396, 10 years after the foundation of Milan Cathedral.

Broletto is a medieval building with some Gothic elements. It used to be Como municipal building, starting from XIII century. Citizens used to gather in front of Broletto called by a bell installed in Broletto's tower. Broletto is situated in between Como cathedral and the bishop's palace. Nowadays it hosts art exhibitions and events.

Como, due to its geographical location of connection between Italy and Europe as well as for the importance of tourism-related activities, has had a notable development of public transport since the nineteenth century.
In the first half of the 19th century the service on the lake began with a fleet of motorized steamers; in the second half of the same century the railway tunnel of the S. Gottardo is opened and Como is thus connected on one side with Milan and on the other with Lucerne.

This villa is a great example of neoclassical architecture. Odescalchi. Its construction started at the end of 18th century and was finished in 1812 by marquesses Odescalchi. It belonged to family Raimondi and Visconti di Modrone. In 1925, Como municipality decided to make it a place for cultural events and art exhibitions. Villa Olmo is definitely the most majestic villa at Como lake. It is composed of a huge park and many buildings. The central building, the south side, the south and the north casinos, greenhouses, tennis courts, an international hostel and a lido.
