About this activity
From Bogota we will be going north of the city in a private tour to meet the Cundiboyacense plateau that connects us with one of the most important towns in Colombia: Zipaquira.
Before known as “Chicaquicha” (foot of the zipa (King) in native language) was the biggest economy in the region because of the production of the most appreciated article: salt.
With an extension of 197 km2, a population of 126.400, a temperature around 14 c° and 2.652 meters above sea level hold the first Colombian wander: an impressive engineering piece where the Muisca culture, the catholic tradition and the modern advances will allow us to get in the deep mountain, going 180 meters inside, through the structures created by the artist, sculptors and decorators that use the illumination to accentuate the majestic magnitude of this work.
This jewel of Colombian architecture is cultural, religious and environmental patrimony. Its design was made by Roswell Garavito Pearl, chosen in the contest by the Colombian Society of Architecture. Inaugurated in 1995 the cathedral makes part of a thematic complex called the Salt Park with 32 hectares where Colombian arts, mining, geology and development in this economic area are exposed.
After coming out of the mine we will visit Zipaquira´s down town to get to know its colonial architecture and its squares that are surrounded by some of the national monuments.
