Costa Verde Tour from Esposende

Your tour kicks off at 9:00AM, when you’ll be collected from your Esposende hotel.

During the drive you will learn about the rich culture and heritage of the region.

You will follow your way driving along the beaches of Póvoa de Varzim and see the tiny fishermen´s cottages along the way.

In Vila do Conde you will start with the view from the Monastery of Sta. Clara. You will pass the center city and see the main church ´Igreja de Matriz´. After this you will visit the perfect replica of the Ship that discovered Brazil in the year 1500 and the museum of shipbuilding, navigation and overseas trade. In the end you will visit a small catholic chapel that was constructed facing Mecca.

Arrive in the medieval town of Barcelos, head to the ruins of the Palace of the ´Duques de Braganza` that is also an outdoor archeological museum. You will visit the main church with its spectacular ´Azulejos´ and hear about the legend of the rooster.

After this you will visit the historical center of Barcelos where you will visit the church of ´Bom Jesus da Cruz´. You will see the city and its baroque gardens from the medieval tower.

If your tour is on Thursday, you will as well get involved in one of the oldest and biggest markets in Portugal ´a feira de Barcelos´.

Leave Barcelos and cruise to Viana do Castelo, where you will get to know the fortress of ´Santiago da Barra´, the hospital boat ´Gil Eannes´ and learn more about traditional regional clothing in the ´Museu do Traje´.

There will be time for a coffee and a Portuguese pastry before you follow your way to the hill of ´Santa Luzia´.

Your tour concludes with the breathtaking view from the Hill of ´Santa Luzia´ and a visit to the sanctuary.

After this the tour ends and you will go back to your hotel Esposende.
