About this activity
Your tour kicks off at 9:00am, when you’ll be collected from your Esposende hotel.
During the drive, you will learn about the rich culture and heritage of this region.
Arrive in the medieval town of Barcelos, head to the ruins of the Palace of the ´Duques de Braganza` that is also an outdoor archeological museum. You will visit the main church with its spectacular ´Azulejos´ and hear about the legend of the rooster.
After this you will visit the historical center of Barcelos where you will visit the church of ´Bom Jesus da Cruz´. You will see the city and its baroque gardens from the medieval tower.
If your tour is on Thursday, you will as well get involved in one of the oldest and biggest markets in Portugal ´a feira de Barcelos´.
Leave Barcelos and cruise to Ponte de Lima to spend time strolling the streets of Portugal´s oldest village. Wander along and admire charming architecture highlighted by the Lima river and learn more about the Legend of Lethes river.
Here you will have some free time to lunch, take this opportunity taste the traditional food and the greatest ´Vinho Verde´.
In Viana do Castelo, you will get to know the fortress of ´Santiago da Barra´, the hospital boat ´Gil Eannes´ and learn more about traditional regional clothing in the ´Museu do Traje´.
There will be time for a coffee and a Portuguese pastry before you follow your way to the hill of ´Santa Luzia´.
Your tour concludes with the breathtaking view from the Hill of ´Santa Luzia´ and a visit to the sanctuary.
After this the tour ends and you will go back to your hotel Esposende.
