Jewish heritage walking tour in Brasov

About this activity
We start the tour in the city center and walk to the first stop of our tour, a Jewish cemetery near Livada Postei. After a short tour of the gravestones and a small mausoleum where ashes of Jews murdered at Auschwitz are located, we continue to the next cemetery located 5 minutes away. After this, we cross the city center and we enter a private courtyard where we will have the chance to see only the outside of the orthodox synagogue, built in 1924 and heavily damaged in 1941 by the Iron Guard. One particularity of this building is its façade, which is beautifully decorated with a plant motif mosaic and two lions supporting a menorah. Since the use of animal figures is allowed in the mosaic culture, the presence of the design with the two lions above the entrance makes the synagogue a rare building. Sometimes it is possible to visit the old mikvah / ritual abth.
The tour ends at the final stop of our tour, the neologic Synagogue, built between 1899 and 1901 after the Hungarian architect Leopold Baumhorn. After a visit of its interior those who are hungry can have a kosher meal in the synagogue's restaurant. (for larger groups a reservation is needed at least 2 days before).
