About this activity
Your guide will pick you up at in the morning or in the afternoon in a centrally located place in Brussels. Leave Brussels directly direction Waterloo and during this 40-min short trip on board of your luxury coach, a DVD will give you more information about the battle of Waterloo. You will be driven along the Wellington Museum - situated in the center of Waterloo - towards the battlefield.
There, your small vehicle has the advantage to make a driving tour of the battlefield possible, and this from East to West and from North to South. You start your exploration with the eastern corner of the battlefield and see the "Ferme de la Papelotte" and the famous sunken road that was so heavy, in casualties for the French Cavalry Back to the center of the battlefield and passing the Gourdon monument, the monument of the Hanovrians and the "La Haie Sainte" farm, theatre of heavy fighting resulting that the Farm was only taken by Napoleon in the very late afternoon. Close to the "Belle Alliance" farm (Napoleon's headquarter), you will have an outlook from the same observation point that Napoleon used.
Then, in the village of Plancenoit, you will reach the monument for the Prussians: a turning point in the battle, as you can see the eastern fields from where the Prussians were coming, despite being beaten 2 days earlier in Ligny. This arrival at the "good place and the good time" and the fantastic defense of Hougoumont, have been crucial in the result of the battle.
Your next stop will be the very interesting visitor center, putting the Battle in a more general European perspective. There you can assist to fabulous presentation of the battle in 4D. Of course, you can climb the Lion hill and visit the Panorama painting.
The highlight of the tour is undoubtedly the presentation at the grange of Hougoumont farm, on the spot where 200 years ago, the battle in the battle took place. By using new technologies, you will get a very impressive end of your visit.
At the end of the tour, your guide will drive you back to central Brussels.

This was 100 better than when I took this tour 17 years ago. There is a new visitor center at the sight of the battle, recessed underground so as not to ruin the sight lines, and our guide drove us around the battlefield not large, reminds me of Gettysburg then the main visitor center then we went to Hougamount, the key position guarding Wellingtons right flank where substantial remains of the farm buildings remain and they have spiffy multi-media presentation of the fight for Hougamount, the famous gate where the French entered but the British in a supreme effort managed to close it and wipe out the French who had entered the Courtyard and thus hang on to Hougamount by the skin of their teeth still exists, although obviously a new replacement for the original. According to the guide Wellington was asked early on, if you are killed what are your orders, Hold Hougamount.
