About this activity
Day 1: Bucharest - Transfagarasan Road – Sibiu
In the morning drive to Curtea de Arges, to visit the beautiful 16th century monastery. Further drive on one of Europe's most spectacular roads: the Transfagarasan Road, crossing the Carpathian mountains. (The Transfagarasan Road is open between July and October. Alternatively, we will drive through the Olt Valley to Sibiu).
In the afternoon we will reach the Transylvanian town of Sibiu, the cultural capital of Europe in 2007. The city was built by German settlers, the so-called Saxons, in the 12th century. Explore the old part of the city, which is incredibly well preserved. Accommodation in the centrally-located 4* THE COUNCIL boutique hotel (or a similar 4* hotel).
Day 2: Sibiu – Biertan (UNESCO) – Sighisoara (UNESCO)
Buffet breakfast. After breakfast depart from Sibiu and drive to Brateiu, where you will discover a special community: the Romani Gypsy coppersmiths. This is an unique opportunity to find out more about their lifestyle, history and handcraft. Continue your tour to Biertan and visit the fortified church from the 15th century. In the afternoon we will arrive in Sighisoara, one of Europe’s last inhabited medieval citadels. Accommodation in a centrally-located boutique 3* hotel (Casa cu Cerb or similar)
Day 3: Sighisoara – Viscri (UNESCO) - Brasov
Buffet breakfast. Drive to the village of Viscri, where Prince Charles himself owns an old farm dating back to the 18th century. Have a walk through the village and discover a cultural and natural landscape which disappeared in most parts of Europe. We will then head to Brasov, in medieval times one of the most important and richest cities of the area. The city is beautifully located at the foot of the Tampa mountain and the Old Town is charming. Accommodation in the centrally located Casa Wagner 3* hotel for 2 nights.
Day 4: Brasov – Bran – Prejmer (UNESCO) – Brasov
Buffer breakfast. Drive to Bran and visit the famous castle from the 14th century, also known as the “Dracula Castle”. Next, we will head to Prejmer, also near Brasov. In Prejmer strong defense walls guard the Lutheran church and the approximately 200 storage rooms. The afternoon is at leisure in Brasov.
Day 5: Brasov – Sinaia – Bucharest
Buffet breakfast. Leave Brasov and Transylvania and drive through the Prahova Valley to Sinaia. Visit the Peles Castle, the former summer residence of the Romanian kings. After the visit drive back to Bucharest. Your tour ends at your hotel in Bucharest or with an airport transfer (if leaving Romania by plane on this day it is advisable to book a flight in the afternoon or in the evening, to give yourself enough time to visit Sinaia).
