About this activity
Day 1 - 38 km - 110m elevation
We start the day in Zabala and cycle on a country road to the village of Ghelinta, where we will visit the Roman Catholic Church of St. Emeric, a UNESCO Heritage monument, one of the most important churches in Transylvania, dating back to the 13th century. After a brief History lesson, we will leave the church's cool air and cycle back to the field through Imeni, take a break in the village of Peteni, where we can quench our thirst with ice cold mineral water and where we can take a bath in the babbling water in the cooling shade of poplar trees . We will continue our tour through the villages of Surcea, Tamasfalau and, if we are lucky and during the appropriate season, we will be able to taste some delicious wild strawberries gathered from a secret place. On our way back to Zabala, if we have time, we can take a tour through the Mikes Castle and the surrounding area. We can spend the rest of the day socializing with the locals or taking a walk through the picturesque village. Dinner in the evening.
Day 2 - 62 km - 660m elevation
After breakfast, we will head to Covasna, visit the city center where we will drink some cold mineral water, visit the Devil's Pit, which the more superstitious locals think is a "gateway to hell". After this, we cycle through the city streets just near the forest, where we will leave our bikes and go on board of the narrow-gauge track train, which will take us to the inclined plane, a unique industrial monument. Back to our bikes, we will venture into the wilderness on an uphill forest road where we can see the old train tracks that lead to the village of Comandau. Arriving there at an altitude of over 1000 meters, we will take a well-deserved break, then we will descend to the village of Papauti on a beautiful forest road where there is a big chance of meeting some bears. The last 17 kilometers of the ride are pretty flat and we can spend the rest of the day hiking in the nearby woods or playing football, followed by a barbeque in the evening.
