About this activity
For this tour, the meeting point will be at your hotel in Bucharest. We will start this full day tour with a visit of Curtea de Arges Monastery, one of the most beautiful churches in Romania, with a strange legend. Next we will visit Poienari fortress, the ruins of count Dracula’s real castle. To visit this fortress you must climb 1400 stairs through the forest, but the view from up there is beautiful! Our next stop will be at the Vidraru dam after a climbing twisted road, the beginning of Transfagarasan.

The most beautiful road in the world, Transfagarasan, starts smoothly through the forest, but then ascends sharply to the sky for a spectacular view. At the top of it, in the clouds, a green glacier lake was formed, Balea glacier lake. Next to it, an old chalet, Balea lac chalet, waits to offer lunch to those who stop there. We will be their guests, too.

After arriving in Bucharest we will drop you off at your hotel or another chosen location.

I cannot speak more highly about this tour and our guide, Chip, who was a wonderful companion throughout our day visiting Vlad the Impaler's Citadel, the Transfagarasan Road, the lake at the top, and the monastery where the Romanian royal family is buried. This is a MUST tour for anyone wanting to experience the real Romania. The Citadel involves a long climb over 1500 steps but Chip was very patient and gave us ample time to reach the top. The views from the Citadel are breathtaking. After lunch, we drove up along the famous Transfagarasan Road which Top Gear has named the most beautiful road in the world. They were right! No words can explain the experience of viewing this road. Chip, our guide, gave us ample stops to take photographs and take in the sheer wonder of this landscape. The lake at the top is also a bucket list experience. Chip was entirely at our disposal and was eager to make our trip as memorable as possible. He is extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and a joy to spend the day with touring through the Romanian countryside. He has his own car and is able to offer Wifi free of charge, which allowed us to send our pics to family via WhatsApp whilst on our journey. His English is perfect and he clearly loves his job.
