Transylvania is home to some of Europe's best-preserved medieval towns, most notably Brasov
, featuring old Saxon architecture and citadel ruins. It is a place you do not want to miss when you visit Romania. On this tour, you'll have the opportunity to relax during your journey in a high quality car/minivan, and discover the splendid landscapes together with your professional guide. Start the trip from your hotel/accommodation and head to your first stop, Sinaia City, where you will visit the Peles Castle, a neo-Renaissance castle situated in the Carpathian Mountains on an existing medieval route, linking Transylvania and Wallachia, built between 1873 and 1914. The interior decoration is mostly Baroque influenced, with heavy carved woods and exquisite fabrics.
After this stop, it's time for the spooky adventure at Dracula’s Castle (Bran Castle). Surrounded by an aura of mystery and perched high on a 200 foot high rock, Bran Castle has become famous due to its imposing towers and turrets, and after the story by English novelist Bram Stoker and his Count Dracula character. The castle was first mentioned in an official document issued by King Louis I of Hungary in 1377, who gave the Saxons from Kronstadt (Brasov) the privilege to build the citadel on the site of a Teutonic knights stronghold dating from 1212. Narrow winding stairways lead through 60 timbered rooms, many connected by hidden passages, housing collections of furniture, weapons and armor from the 14th-19th century. The castle looms over the picturesque village of Bran, which can be described as an open-air ethnographic museum, consisting of old and local style village houses; complete with furniture, household objects and costumes.
The last part of the trip will include a walk in Brasov, the medieval city, where you will pass by the splendid Black Church, the bohemian historical center and the main square (Piata Sfatului).
