Henry was our excellent guide on our trip to the Fayoum area which is about 80 km south west of Cairo. Away from the hustle and bustle of Cairo we could appreciate the comparative peace and quiet of the area as well as the many impressive attempts to conserve the flora and fauna of the region. We visited the lakes of Wadi el-Rayan and its impressive waterfalls before enjoying a short boat trip with a local fisherman enabling us to observe at close quarters several of its many species of bird life. But we also learnt a lot about the history of the region by visiting the ancient site of Karanis and the impressive museum at Kom Aushim. It was here that we fully appreciated the significance of crocodiles in the region with its temples dedicated to the crocodile gods. Following a tasty lunch overlooking Lake Qarun we headed back to Cairo and a hands-on demonstration of papyrus making near the pyramids at Giza. Overall a great day out from Cairo and good to get well off the usual tourist trail for a change.
What an amazing experience!!! Highly recommended! Something different from the common tourists destinations. You can see how water meets desert and it's really magical! Great local food! Thanks!
Galal and his driver were absolutely great on this day tour. The weather was not exactly cooperating, so due to high winds we were not able to enjoy the boat ride of the lake, but nonetheless the tour through the Faiyum Oasis and waterfalls of Wadi El-Rayan were an adventure worth seeing. Galal ensured a more relaxing, laid-back atmosphere for the entire tour, which was a nice change from the busy rush of tours in Cairo.
This was the best tour. I am a water person and when i saw the waterfall i just wanted to just sit and enjoy that. Henry supprised us with a boat ride. It was the funnest part of our tour. We ended with a very nice lunch and met a pretty cat who shared our lunch . It was a nice visit where we saw how people lived .
Our tour guide, Galal, was extremely knowledgable and taught us a lot about Egyptian history and archaeology. The waterfall and lake activity was relaxing and pleasant and it was a nice chance to meet some locals.
