About this activity
Visit: National Dinosaur Museum, Cnr Gold Creek Road and Barton Highway, Nicholls, Canberra 2913 Australia
Located in Gold Creek Village, the National Dinosaur Museum is one of Canberra’s premier tourist attractions and offers an interactive insight into the Earth’s long and dynamic history. The museum houses life-like dinosaur models, full skeletons, skulls, and robotic dinosaurs. Visitors can navigate through millions of years of Earth’s ancient past.
The museums experienced and enthusiastic staff host guided tours of the exhibitions at 12pm weekdays and at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm on weekends and during school holidays. These fun-filled and informative tours are tailored to suit children and adults of all ages and run for 30 minutes. Tours focus on key elements of the exhibition and discuss geological time scales, Australia’s prehistory, paleontological methods, how dinosaurs evolved and lived, climactic changes and events, and rise of the mega-fauna that followed dinosaur extinction.
The interactive area is a great space for the kids to make fossil rubbings, complete colouring-in activities, touch real minerals, or just relax on the dinosaur bean bags and watch a documentary.
The museum and gift shop also houses Canberra’s largest display of crystals and minerals. Discover the natural wonders of the Earth including Australian minerals, amethyst caves and polished stones. Rummage through the tumbled gem pit, crack open your own quartz geode, or view the huge range of fossil fish, ammonites, and meteorites for sale. The gift shop also stocks a range of natural history books, dinosaur models, apparel, and toys.
The National Dinosaur Museum is open from 10am – 5pm, 7 days.
