The problem with this tour is that it was with Amigo tours. They are very poorly organised despite it saying hotel pick up they had us pay for our own taxi to meet them at the ruins. They didn't call us or look in the other car park that we had mistakenly been stood waiting at. we had to run to catch the guild at the entrance. Things got much better as the guild was fabulous he was very knowledgeable and friendly. following the tour of the ruins we were put on a none English speaking bus then changed on the main road to another one not knowing what was going on and left at the reception of the Rio Secreto. I would advise visiting these places on your own especially if your staying in Tulum its easy and the taxi's are cheep and drivers friendly. the tour of Rio Secreto was wonderful so beautiful, this was let down by the fact you were not aloud to take in your go pro and then they try to charge to 25 US dollars per photo or 100 for the lot
The tour itself was fine, but going through Amigo Tours was an absolute mess. I was staying in Tulum and the package offers to do a pick-up and to confirm a pick-up time/place beforehand. Since I was not sure if I could make a call to Mexico I'm from US, I emailed the email address given and the Amigo Tours rep gave me information different from what my friend who came on this tour too got over the phone. The pick-up times and places were different which is utterly confusing when you are a visitor and don't know the area well! Horrible communication and wrong information given. We had to call multiple times to reconfirm. Then we showed up at the pick up spot at 7:45am as stated by the Amigo Tours rep, the driver showed up AN HOUR LATER. Waiting for a driver to pick you up on your first excursion of the Tulum trip is NOT a good impression/experience! Also, the boxed lunch was never given because it was not communicated how to obtain the boxed lunch but apparently the lunch is given by Viator and not Amigo Tours, which was also not communicated. I don't know how I would've been able to figure that one out unless the proper reps told me. Tulum Ruins were cool and Rio Secreto was really cool. But you can DEFINITELY just pay for admission into these places separately not go through Viator and get a far better experience than dealing with delayed pick-up, not receiving a boxed lunch, and horrible communication.
