Half-Day Colors of Chiang Mai Biking Tour
4 h
Half Day
About this activity
The route will take you on quiet and green land roads, passing the historic settlement Wiang Kum Kam, founded in 1286 by King Mengrai. It was the capital of the Lanna empire for a period of only 10 years. See temples and ruins dating back hundreds of years.
You will make a stop at a local temple en-route. The guide can tell you everything about this temple and about Buddhism in general.
Then, you will stop at the McKean rehabilitation center; a former leper colony, once cut off from the outside world. Nowadays it is a rehabilitation center for people with many kinds of physical disabilities.
You continue the ride and stop at an elementary school mostly attended by hill tribe children. However, the visit to the school may not be available during school holidays.
The ancient Lanna Empire produced some of the finest ceramics ever to have been made. These days the northern region still is the major center of Thailand’s pottery industry. At a small pottery we watch the craftsmen make different shapes of pottery by hand.
Riding along the Ping River and explore the green scenery surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna. You will stop at a local bakery and take a delicious sweet bun while watching the baker produce many other different products.
At the market you will see the same products back in small traditional shops; and here you have the opportunity to sample some of the most delicious and exotic fruits and other snacks.
We will stop every hour for a short rest and provide you with drinking water or a soft drink. Halfway through the trip a small Thai meal (Khao Soy Kai) will be served in a local restaurant.
Discover the hidden places of Chiang Mai through this recreational, cultural and educational half day Chiang Mai bicycle tour. Join this adventure to the unbeaten paths and to sites where old traditions continue to live on.

The tour route was pretty good, guide was nice but the owner wasn't. Most of the people on the tour with me were Dutch and the owner of these tours was too. I arrived and he starting speaking Dutch to me, then I said I don't understand and I thought that he would speak English from here on. The rest of the tour arrived and they were all Dutch, so he switched back to Dutch. When he was offering out the bikes in Dutch he finally offered me my bike and spoke to me again in Dutch. I got a bike then asked if I could get a bike with better brakes as they were quite bad, he adjusted the brakes then quipped at me asking if I had ever cycled before. Finally when the guide arrived she spoke English and I felt much better, relieved that I hadn't accidentally booked the Dutch speaking tour. I recommend the cycling part with a friend to join, you see some really nice parts of south Chiang Mai - definitely off the beaten track. However the owner seemed very rude to me.
This was the highlight of my stay in Chang Mai! I learned so much about local tradition, sites and history. only regret was taking the half day instead of the whole day!
Our guide was great. She was knowledgable and very engaging.
