I really enjoyed this tour. Our guide did a great job of keeping the whole group engaged and having fun while also learning a lot about Chicago history. I'm a bit of a history buff, but even I learned a lot that I did not know. It was a great experience to see some off-the-beaten-path places like the Billy Goat Tavern and the beautiful lobby area in the Intercontinental Hotel. I never would have gone to these places on my own.
Actually 4.5 stars if available. Alex was definitely a great guide for this tour. Definitely loves history and Chicago and knew his stuff. The pictures on the I-Pad were fun. We were lucky to be in an intimite group of just 4 couples. Being in the tour made it comfortable to observe at a leisurly pace inside buildings and safe when outside looking at architecture. Definitely saw and heard things I would not have even considered on our own. I was ready to pay cash up front to the guide for the drinks not included - it is in the tour information but a few were caught off guard and had to use an ATM. Also know if you want beer, red wine, white wine or soda or water. One choice for all three bars. I wish there would have been a choice of beer IPA or RED or any other type of beer. The appetizers were good. The pace was leisurely and relaxed and a very pleasant evening. Ended early enough to feel safe walking back to our hotel.
Some of the stops seemed a little disjointed. We stopped at the Marriott with no real explanation of why the stop was on the tour or the historical significance. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, but it seemed like we had to ask a lot of questions to get the full story. The use of the ipads almost seemed to take more time than it was worth.
Morgan was great. We learned a lot and had a fun group. Would highly recommend.
This was the perfect way to learn about the city of Chicago, its architecture, prohibition and some histkory of Jazz.
