About this activity
Chicago might be called the Windy City, but you're about to learn why its skyscrapers are still standing strong. Walk with a guide from the 19th century to today, learn the history of these architectural masterpieces and find out how Chicago became a center of skyscraper design and engineering.
The architecture in Chicago is so striking that Batman's 'Gotham City' was based on it. They even filmed some of the movies here.
Join a trained docent and step back in time to the 19th century, when the now world-famous skyscrapers shot up and transformed a city previously devastated by fire.
Examine the Moorish and Romanesque exterior of Burnham and Root's Rookery (1888), and step into the stunning atrium.
Study Adler and Sullivan's Auditorium Building (1889), Holabird and Roche's Marquette Building (1895), and the Art Deco masterpiece that is Holabird and Root's Chicago Board of Trade Building (1930).
A must for anyone interested in architecture and engineering, or just something different to do on your trip to Chicago.
