Sigiriya Rock Fortress refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres height and one of the best known preserved examples of ancient urban planning.

This amazing complex was built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD) and most of the elaborate constructions on the rock summit date back to this period as well as defensive structures, palaces and gardens.
