Stop At: Ruwanwelisaya, Abhayawewa Rd, Anuradhapura 50000 Sri Lanka

Ruwanweli maha seya was built by the great king Dutugamunu who reigned from 137BC to 119BC from Anuradhapura. Next to Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweli Seya temple is the most venerated Buddhist site in Anuradhapura. After the defeat of Elara, the South Indian invader and bringing the whole country under one rule by the great warrior king Dutugemunu, building of Ruwanweli Seya has been given the most prominence in most ancient texts in Sri Lanka.

Stop At: Isurumuniya Temple, At Royal Pleasure Gardens, Anuradhapura 50000 Sri Lanka

Isurumuniya is a Buddhist temple situated near to the Tisawewa (Tisa tank). The temple was built by King Devanampiya Tissa who ruled in the ancient Sri Lankan capital of Anuradhapura. After 500 children of high-caste were ordained, Isurumuniya was built for them to reside. It is renowned for its stone carvings of which the most famous is one known as the “Isurumuniya Lovers”. The other carvings are of the Horseman, Elephant Pond and the Royal Family.

Stop At: Mihintale, Anuradhapura Sri Lanka

Mihintale is a revered site among the Buddhists of Sri Lana as it is beleived that this is the place where Mahinda Thero first encountered King Devanampiyatissa, which led to the establishment of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Son of King Asoka of India, Mahinda Thero has first called out to the king as he chased after a deer from the mountain of Mihintale and as such it is now a place that is worshiped and visited by many due to its religious as well as archaeological significance.
