The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is the most revered site in Sri Lanka. Locally known as the Sri Dalada Maligawa, this place of worship was constructed in the 16th century AD. Situated adjacent to the Royal Palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, the shrine overlooks the vast expanse of the Kandy Lake. A visit to the Temple of the Sacred Relic Temple is a must when you are in Kandy. While the tooth stays hidden within a gold casket, visitors and devotees always visit the temple during puja just to have a look at the well protected inner shrine where it is kept.

Royal botanical gardens in Peradeniya is the largest of Sri Lanka’s botanical gardens displaying over 4 000 different species of plants and is regarded among the most superior in Asia. The focal points include the superb Orchid collection and a mighty avenue of Royal Palm Trees. In addition to a plethora of flowering plants, there is also an extensive collection of medicinal plants and spices which can be spotted on your meander across the gardens. Encompassing over 60 hectares of sublimely designed lawns, pavilions and plant houses the extraordinary array of Sri Lankan, Asian and international flora is a fragrantly delectable, colourfully charming view on the eye. Gorgeous avenues lead on to sections exploding in bursts of tropical colour, and great lawns highlight enormous lush trees.

Bahirawakanda temple is a very attractive and hilly place close to Kandy Town. Many tourists are attracted by the giant Buddha statue, which was built with people’s generous donations. Founded by Ven. Ampitiye Dammarama Thero, the monastery was started in 1972 . The big Buddha’s statue has now become one of the major attractions in Kandy.

The cultural show in Kandy gives you the opportunity to witness a spectacular display of Kandyan dancing, Sri Lanka’s iconic art form, which includes elaborate costumes, boisterous mass drumming, and flamboyant dancing. It gives you an introduction to the various dance forms of the Kandyan hill country as well as the low country and ends with the most impressive and exciting fire walking. The performance normally lasts for an hour until 6pm.

Gregory’s Lake is one of the country’s most scenic beauty spots and it has been a most prominent attraction in Nuwara Eliya. There is a calm park next to it with walkways and benches to rest on. There are horses roaming which are offered for rides. he cool air is lovely on the water and the sights are unbeatable. Gregory Lake was created by Governor William Gregory between 1872 and 1877. It was used for watersports during the British colonial period.

The Hakgala Botanical Gardens is only one of five botanical gardens and is the second largest botanical garden in Sri Lanka covering a vast area of 28 hectares. Located a few kilometers away from Nuwara Eliya and nestled 1745 metres high in the Sri Lankan hill country, the botanical gardens is blessed with perfect weather for cultivation of various species of flora and is also home to unique fauna as well.

This Pedro tea factory is closest to the town, compared to the other tea factories. Tea produced here is popular all over the world, and is one of high priced as well. An half an hour tour is provided at this tea factory at Nuwara Eliya. Since the tea processed here is very light, it generally takes place at night.

The post office was constructed in 1894, the building typically resembles architectural features which belong to the British. The red coloured bricks, stripes as well as the roof has given a nice appearance to this two storied building. The three storied clock tower ends with a pyramidal shaped roof and its clock is worked by an automated electric system.

Stop At: Demodara Nine Arch Bridge, Gotuwala, Ella 90090 Sri Lanka
The nine arch bridge in Demodara loop and spans 91 meters at a height of 24m. The beautiful nine arches make it a very picturesque spot especially as it is located in a dense jungle and agricultural setting. Behind the railway, a forest is booming and below, tea leaves are being cultivated. The unique part about this bridge is that it is built entirely from rocks, bricks, and cement with no use of steel or metals throughout the structure. The bridge was commissioned in 1941 and the story goes that as the bridge was being planned World War I broke out.

Ella Rock is a famous cliff located high above Ella’s village and 1041m (3415ft) above sea level. The stunning viewpoint rewards you with the most breathtaking lookout across the hills of the country. The not so strenuous trek is around 8km long, taking a couple of hours, but the gradient is not too steep. On the way up you pass through unique tea plantations, train tracks and the beautiful Sri Lankan countryside.

Little Adams Peak has become an attraction to local and foreign tourist. A large number of people visit the area to admire its scenic beauty. Little Adams Peak is located about 2 km from the Ella town. From this location Kataragama and the Hambantota beach which are hundreds of kilometers away can also be seen. The Namunukula, Poonagala and Narangala mountain ranges also located on near this place. The mount extent about 10 acres some of the Small Sripada is full of biodiversity.

Stop At: Yala National Park, Sri Lanka
Yala national park is being the most famous and second largest wild life sanctuary in Sri Lanka. Yala national park is located in the southeast region of the country and lies at the edge of the southern province and the beginning of the eastern province. An area of 979 square kilometers (378 sq mi) belongs to the park and it is situated within about 300 kilometers (190 mi) from Colombo. Yala national park is best known for its variety of wild animals while the population of leopards could be considered as the most interesting feature of the park. The Ruhuna/West Park consists of 125 species of birds, some migratory and 32 species of mammals with a large density of Leopards, as high as 35, though they are sometimes difficult to spot due to their nocturnal lifestyle, while the Kumana/East Yala Park consists of many water birds that roost and breed here. Further, a large herd of elephants also sustain here, adding an immense value and attraction to the park.

It is definitely a fascinating place to visit in Galle.
