Stop At: Plaza Regocijo (Kusipata), Cusco Peru

Kick off your historical Cusco tour at Plaza Regocijo, which at an altitude of 3,400 metres, is one of the highest in the world. Talk about starting the morning on top of the world!

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Mercado Central de San Pedro, Tupac Amaru, Cusco 08003 Peru

First you will visit to the San Pedro market. You will learn about the market's history as you explore rows of local produce, colourful fabrics, flower vendors, shaman stalls, and loud juice makers in the company of your English-speaking guide. There will be opportunity to try out a few local words and purchase snacks for later in the day. Be ready for some entertaining local interaction!

Duration: 40 minutes

Stop At: Complejo Arqueologico Waqrapukara, Carretera CU-117, S/N Close to the Apurimac River, Acomayo region, 08000 Peru

Leave the unforgettable smells and flavours of the Cusco market behind as we depart by private transportation to explore the Inca ruins just outside of Cusco.

First on our Cusco ruins trail is Q'enqo, which was once a major Inca ceremonial and ritual site. We'll explore Q'enqo and then head out for a short, 15 minute scenic walk to the statue of Cristo Blanco (White Christ), where we'll stop for our delicious picnic of Peruvian snacks and enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of Cusco's cityscape.

Duration: 40 minutes

Stop At: Sacsayhuaman, Cusco 08000 Peru

Next, we'll explore the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman. At an altitude of 3,700 metres and just three kilometres from Cusco, the fortress boasts walls up to 400 metres long, made out of boulders weighing between 128 and 200 tonnes. Every year the Inty Raymi (celebration of the sun) is celebrated on these ruins overlooking the city of Cusco.

Duration: 40 minutes

Stop At: Statue of Christ, Cusco Peru

A present from the Arabic Palestinians who visited Cusco after the Second World War. The present was to show their gratitude for the hospitality of the city gave them.

To finish the tour, we'll walk back to Cusco, which will take us about half an hour. We'll descend back to the city via Inca streets, learning some stories and legends of the Inca Empire along the way. We'll meander through the bohemian area of San Blas before finding ourselves back at Plaza de Armas, Cusco's main square, where your tour will come to a close.

We had a great tour of the market and surrounding blocks in the heart of Cusco, as well as parts of the countryside with various Inca ruins. Our tour guide was personable and very knowledgable about Peruvian life and the Incan culture. The market was a fascinating place and we even learned enough Spanish to buy fruit and tamales for lunch. There was a bit more walking than anticipated, but it was all downhill and the weather was nice so it all worked out.

This was a great tour! Lily was friendly and fun. She took us through the local market and practiced communicating in Spanish with us to purchase our tamales, Inca cola, and fruit. We learned a lot about the locals through Lily. It was a good amount of walking, and she took us up some steep trails, but nothing that was unmanageable. I would absolutely recommend this tour!

We had a great time with Lily on our market tour. We met her at the Plaza Regocijo at 9am, which is close to the Plaza de Armas. From there we went straight to the market. Lily taught us about the local foods and helped us with our Spanish as we purchased snacks for our picnic. This was all included in our tour. Lily even helped me find the right vendor to buy some coffee to take back home. I have to say that butcher section was the most interesting. I'm not squeamish at all, so this was my favorite part. After the market, we took a taxi up to the Temple of the Moon. This tour does not include admission to Sacsayhuaman itself, but you will get a good view of it. During the walk, we asked many questions and Lily gave us tons of info about Cusco, the Inca, Peruvian history...she was very knowledgeable and friendly. Yes this tour does involve a lot of walking but Lily will adjust the pace if necessary. Overall, I thought it was a great way to learn about the history as well as modern ways of Cusco.

A Wonderful Taste of Cusco! Llovana was relaxed and friendly as we visited the bustling Market, bought local unique foods, amazing opportunity to sample culture and the inside scoop Too! Ended up strolling the Inca trail nearby with visions of the Moon, monkeys and Pumas dancing in my head. ENCANTO!
