Day 1: Lijiang - Tiger Leaping Gorge - Shangri-La

Stop At: Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia), 100 km NW of Lijiang Hutiaoxia Town, Shangri-La County 674402 China
The Tiger Leaping Groge is one of the deepest gorges in the world, 16 km long with a sheer 3900 meters between the wild waters of Jinsha river and the top of the snow-capped Haba Snow Mountains next to it. The inhabitants of the gorge are primarily the indigenous Naxi people, who live in a handful of small hamlets. Your tour guide will meet you here.

Stop At: Yangtze River First Bend, Shasongbi Village, Shangri-La County 674400 China
The First Bend of the Yangtze River is an impressive scenic spot at Stone Drum Town where the third longest river in the world make a sudden V-turn. In the past this was an important military strategical point in many different era’s, which of course make for good stories that has been passed on. You can find a monument for the Red Army's River Crossing during the Great March in 1936.

Dukezong Ancient town is a place where the locals still preserve the old Tibetan way of life, crafting traditional jewelry made of silver or horn, instruments, earth ware and daggers. The amount of traditional handicrafts shows the importance in old times as a trading post on the old Tea-Horse road. Let this lovely mountain town welcome you, and spend your free time wandering through the narrow alleys and cobbled winding lanes or relaxing from the day’s adventures.

Day 2: Shangri-La

Stop At: Sumtsaling Monastery, Zhongdian, Shangri-La County 674400 China
Also called ‘Little Potala Palace', this 17th century monastery is modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It is the largest Tibetan monastery in Yunnan with over 700 monks actively practicing Tibetan Buddhism

Stop At: Napahai Scenic Area, Shangri-La, Deqen, Yunnan, China
We invite you to a relaxed break in Shangri-La’s High Mountain Resort to enjoy a cup of coffee at Napa Lake, a beautiful highland meadow full of yaks, horses and more birds. The meadow looks different every season: in summer wild flowers turn it into a colorful carpet, in winter the meadows turn into fields of gold, and in the spring green land stretches to the skyline.

Stop At: Dukezong Ancient Town, South East Of Shangri-La Old Town, Shangri-La County 674999 China
After visiting Songzamlin Monastery we will visit a local Tibetan family to experience the real Tibetan life and hospitality.

After lunch, you will take a look at Baiji Temple, which literally means “hundred chickens temple” in Chinese and is very close to Dukezong Ancient Town. From this temple you can enjoy a wonderful birds-eye view of the city and see many, many chickens. The chickens are really incredible indeed and if you want to know their story and why they crossed the road to live in a monastery, you will have to go there to find the answer.
