About this activity
Les Deux Chevres is named after a fable by Jean de Lafontaine written in 1695 for the Dukes of Burgundy. In 2010 the owners purchased two dilapidated run down properties, occupying a privileged position in the ancient wine village of Gevrey Chambertin. One of them used to be a winery, and the original wine press which had been dismantled was still there.

In the place where the press had stood, were vintage charts for 100 years of Gevrey vintages from 1863. Underneath the properties were ancient vaulted cellars. It took four years of meticulous and often arduous renovation work to put the property back as near as possible to the way that it was.

In 2013 the hotel opened, and this year the owners have started offering guests and the public alike, a tour of the ancient winery, the wine press, around which they have built a collection of old wine making tools that would have been used at the time.

A friendly local wine professional provides guided tastings of the wines of Gevrey and the surrounding villages, which are now part of the hotel wine collection, served and sold to guests and now available for purchase as part of the tour. An extensive are collection is available to view, including work by local artists who have devoted themselves to capturing images and objects associated with wine making.

Excellent guide with very thorough explanation on the production and the wine in this region. Additionally, fantastic wine tasting session with us tasting thorough the different grades of wines which we all absolutely enjoyed!

We really enjoyed this visit to the winery. The staff were so friendly, the wine tasting was nicely organized, and the place was lovely. It was a very pleasant afternoon with an inside view of a Burgundian village operation.
