Your half-day, small-group crash course in French wine and cheese begins with pickup by air-conditioned minivan in central Dijon. Relax on a leisurely ride through the French countryside. If you’ve ever wanted to know more about Burgundy’s wines and cheese, this is a great introduction.
Learn from your guide about Burgundian wines like pinot noir and the importance of terroir with a Côte de Nuits vineyard tour. Visit classic wine-producing villages and see some of the region’s historic memorials during the scenic ride. Note the castle-like buildings, vineyards, and quaint signs with grape bunches marking the Route des Grands Crus (Route of Great Wines).
Follow your wine specialist into a caveau, or wine cellar, to try sips of the wines as you learn about them. Toward the end of the tour, sample a delicious plate of local artisanal cheeses paired with two wines from the Côte de Nuits. The cheeses sampled might include such standouts as Epoisses or Chaource, among others. Then settle in for the drive back to Dijon. Three hours flew by. Christopher’s knowledge, demeanor and friendliness elevated the tour to fantastic. The drive through the ancient vineyard villages was a fairytale in motion. This tour with Chris was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the drive through the country and all the information he gave us about the classification of the vineyards. The second vineyard we visited was fascinating, lots of information and also an interesting choice of wines to taste.
Chris was an amazing host showing us the countryside of Dijon and stopping to let us take pictures along the way. The two wine and cheese tastings were a compliment to the knowledge and sights gained throughout the experience. I highly recommend using Chris and this tour was absolutely breath-taking.
Our tour guide Christopher, was very knowledgeable about the Burgundy wine region. Despite the rainy weather conditions, we had an awesome tour. Besides the beautiful countryside we had two awesome wine tastings. Our first stop was with Paul, who gave us several wines to try accompanied with a baguette and different types of cheeses. The next winery included some special Grand Cru wines which at home would be very expensive. We had a very pleasant and informative afternoon and would highly recommend this tour.
