THRIFT SHOP 1

Satwa, well-known as the budget shopping & repairing destination for, literally, anything, also has three crazy-good thrift stores called Ukay Ukay which are like Salvation Army Stores. These thrift stores are run by members of the Filipino community based in Dubai. Second hand or vintage items, are acquirable here after a good bargaining session- so go test your haggling capabilities. We start off at our first Thrift – 'D&J Ukay Ukay'. Here you can find a bit of everything– literally. Happy plundering!

THRIFT SHOP 2

We grew particularly fond of 'Sray General Trading'. Although positioned in a quiet side alley, its contents spoke volumes. We managed to get fixed-up with a classic leather cloak here, of course, at a reasonable price, so be sure to negotiate well. TAILOR MADE

'Neha Tailors' are Zahra’s favorite. This is where she gets her most fashionable pieces tailor made, based off of her own conceptualizations. These guys are legends, so you can have confidence in both your designs and their ability to bring them to life. The process is also made simple—handover your sketches, choose from their fabrics or bring your own, then swing by after a few days for pick-up.

THRIFT SHOP 3:

Hidden on yet another side alley, you will find 'LA Ukay Ukay Garments Trading'. This store focuses rather on jackets. Vintage items are very common here so if you aim to make your style a little more retro, check this place out for those classics. FYI – vintage is everything that is 20 years and older! And off to our next stop.

PASHA’S DYING WORKSHOP

Pasha is a professional fabric dyer, who has been in the game for many years. From owning his own fashion fabrication plant, to positioning himself as one of Dubai’s top clothing dyers with a diversified client base, Pasha has a full range of expertise and experience with textiles and Dubai in general. You might be surprised, but he runs his workshop out of his home which houses 4 employees and himself. NEPALESE RESTAURANT

Yak & Yeti is an interesting place – yet not for everyone. It is a Nepalese Restaurant which hosts a live Nepalese band and a billiard table! Dig into the scrumptious food and enjoy some cold beverages while rocking to the live tunes. This venue is not one with a five-star ambience, but it is very homey, welcoming and serves delicious food. We are sure you will enjoy.

GLOBAL FASHION

If you are not too tired, and are willing to drive for 30 minutes more, lets head to the final stop of this tour. Global Village, is a massive complex. It hosts continent and country stands, featuring the best textiles and fashion from that place. Zahra showed us some of her favorite stalls, the Afghani stall has incredible Fur coats and the Moroccan one is ideal for dresses.
