About this activity
Your half-day tour starts with departure from central Dublin for the drive to Malahide Castle, where you'll enjoy a guided tour of this refurbished landmark that dates back to the 12th century. With your guide, wander the castle grounds, spanning some 250 acres, and keep your eyes or ears open for ghosts said to haunt the site. You'll see the private gardens of Lord Talbot, which have been opened to the public and are described by garden lovers as a small botanic haven.
Then visit the local craft shops or relax over a coffee and snack, if you wish (own expense), before continuing your tour with a coastal drive through picturesque Malahide to Howth. You have time to stroll around this pretty village before making your way to the summit of Howth for a photo op over Dublin Bay. Less than one hour from the city, you'll enjoy a scenic respite.
Your tour ends with return to your pickup point.

This was a favorite excursion. Tour of the castle, fairy trail, walled garden, atrium, courteous service of staff and gift shop can be highly recommended.
Great but forgot on us. Tour guide did not call us. Mistake was done on timing for departure so we did not see Howt. We went home from Malahide village with bus. It was 1km to walk. Otherwise great .
Well the castle itself was interesting, the size of the tour group made it difficult for us to see much of it. We felt rushed from room to room and did not have time to enjoy beautiful history. The tour guide seemed informed, but rushed.
The tour operator makes it very clear on their documentation that the tour is from 930-2pm. That's 4.5 hours. Viator is wrong!!! And we didn't even make it back on time for that! We were on a very tight schedule that day and not coming back till after 2 when we were expecting to be back at 130 was a BIG deal for us! Also, we never stopped for the great lookout over Howth and Dublin Bay :/ Malahide Castle was great and we had enough time there and at Howth, but really disappointed we didn't get the lookout. Plus, the guide was a bit difficult to understand too. She wasn't a native English speaker.
Great local information and beautiful grounds. Our driver Martin was great and got us there and back in perfect time.
Key was our guide Owin was the best!!!! howth was a nice little town. castle was ok but really enjoyed what I learned from Owin
This was by far our favourite tour in Dublin. We were able to tour the Beautiful Malahide Castle with plenty of time to walk around by ourselves. For us, the highlight was Howth Village. We ended up staying there for the rest of the day and our guide was incredible on the bus.
Daughter and I went on this tour to fill some time before our friends arrived. This is a good tour. The castle is neat and the grounds large, we even had a guided tour of the castle which is done very well. We went to Howth, and drove by beautiful scenery (sit on the left side of the bus - door side). Howth was nice, didn't spend much time there, about 30 min, most people got things to eat...we walked to the end of the area and looked out over the water. We would do this again...of course we had another gorgeous day so that always helps.
Tour was very enjoyable. Trevor and Padraig were outstanding. Aidan at the castle was very informative and totally professional
This was an average excursion. The Malahide Castle was disappointing and too much time was spent there. The seaside village of Howth was the highlight with too short of a visit; this was a beautiful village with fantastic fresh seafood. Our guide, though knowledgeable, was too interested in talking about himself. We would recommend a half day trip to Howth.
I arrived to Ireland in the morning, and took this half day trip in the afternoon. We had a nice tour guide on the bus and at the castle. I thought it was a great way to start my trip.
This was a great tour, Jerry (guide) was very knowledgeable, and Kevin (driver) played well into every shtick. One criticism I have is that I wish Jerry had explained where to go on the Castle grounds after the tour, as I think I missed out on a large part.
This tour was not too exciting. The castle was not in real good shape, and the best feature was the exterior and the grounds, in my opinion. Howth Village and Dublin Bay was little more than a drive by and look/see. Getting to the pick up spot from the cruise port was difficult. We had a shuttle from the cruise, which dumped us about a 20-30 minute walk then into the city area where the tour began. This was not the tour's problem, but did cause confusion, difficulty in finding and getting to the area in a timely manner.
