About this activity
In the early morning, your guide will pick you up from selected centrally located pickup points and then drive you north out of the city by luxury coach. After a journey of roughly two hours, arrive in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, in time for your black cab tour.
On a route around the city, listen to your guide talk through the highs and lows of Belfast’s fascinating political history. Hear of its industrial roots, the past four decades of civil unrest, and of its current regeneration; many say the city’s heyday is still to come.
Look out for several of the top Belfast attractions, like the Harland and Wolff shipyard, where the Titanic was built, and Belfast Docks, where numerous ships were made in the city's industrial days. See political murals as you pass through the Falls and Shankill neighborhoods where Belfast’s Unionist and Nationalist cultures live on opposing sides of the divide. Pull over for a closer look at several key locations, including the Peace Wall, where you can sign your name next to legendary peacemakers, such as Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton.
After a break to take refreshments in the city (own expense), leave Belfast behind and hit the road to the Northern Irish coast. Following a route known as the Antrim Coastal Drive, pass spectacular scenery including stony shores, densely wooded glens and picture-perfect harbors. Pause to marvel at Dunluce Castle, a medieval ruin perched precariously atop a bluff on the coast. Fans of hit TV show Game of Thrones may recognize it as the setting for the House of Greyjoy.
After driving for roughly two hours, arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Giant’s Causeway, where you’ll have two hours to explore at leisure. Created more than 60 million years ago after a series of volcanic eruptions, the causeway is best known for its distinctive rock formations that span nearly 18 miles (29 km) of coastline.
Continue on to Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, which links the mainland to Carrick-a-Rede Island. Steel yourself for a heart-stopping walk across the swaying bridge, as the Atlantic Ocean waves pound into the cliffs below. The surrounding headlands were also used for filming several Game of Thrones scenes.
On the journey back to Dublin take a brief stop in the pretty town of Castlebelingham to stretch your legs, before arriving back to central Dublin in the evening.

We had a day of beautiful weather so we got to fully enjoy our Northern Ireland tour. Richard is a fantastic tour guide full of information, helpful hints, clear instructions and awesome sense of humor. I enjoyed the Titanic tour, self paced, but I would have spent less time on the beginning exhibits and more at the end. Next time, I'll take the taxi ride! Definitely make the hike to the top of the ridge at Giant's Causeway, the view is spectacular!
This trip was so worth the time and money! Our guide was so full of historical information, and shared all his information with us!
Really enjoyed this trip to the North of Ireland! We learned a lot and got to see some beautiful countryside. It is a long day and you do a ton of walking if you want to see all the sites. In Belfast, we took the black cab tour and it was fascinating and sad. At the GIant's Causeway we walked down but took the bus back up due to lack of time. The rope bridge was fun and the tour guide's tips to rush down and take pics on the way back was great because the queue got quite long to cross. So glad to have done this trip!
Belfast was absolutely the highlight of her Northern Ireland trip. The Black Cab experience in Belfast absolutely blew me away. All the cabbies have lived through the Catholic/Protestant War. I could have spent the whole day just in the cab!
Well-organised, very informative, beautiful scenery many thanks to our guide Nollaig and driver Paolo
Aisling and Joe are a great team, very friendly and helpful. We had a great view of the Belfast and its history on the Black Cap Tour. Giant's Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede are also impressive. Just remember dont put down your camera or you'll miss a lot of good shots. (
After driving in and around Dublin, Scotland, it was lovely to just ride in a comfortable and informative bus on the way up to Belfast and Giant’s Causeway. I loved every minute of it. DON’t MISS the Black Cab tour. I needed to hear the story of the troubles from people who lived through it. It was one of the hardest, and best, part of my travels so car. And the Causeway.... WOW!!!! Book.
Yoann and Damien were an excellent team and did a great job of guiding the tour. Yoann was informative, friendly, and very helpful, taking the time to speak to each group within the tour individually when he could have been taking a break from what was most assuredly a long working day. Damien was equally friendly and managed the difficult task of guiding a large bus down narrow Irish roads expertly. The trip itself was great, with the Giant’s Causeway being someone everyone should see!
Although a long day, this was a wonderful tour. Plenty of time at all locations to enjoy the sites. Had a wonderful time in Belfast with an amazing guide Martin. He was so informative and knowledgeable and gave us different perspectives of the history and happenings in the area. He was great. The scenery is spectacular
Ashlin was awesome! We have been on other trips but, this was by far the most inviting and interesting.
The Carrick-a-Rede excursion had beautiful scenery and should be highlighted more than the small rope bridge. Even if you're afraid of heights and don't want to cross the rope bridge, you should still go to see the sights. Be aware that going down and then up again to cross the bridge is VERY steep. But you don't have to do that part. You can view from the top of the mountain. The Giant's Causeway was also amazing to see and walk up and down (also somewhat steep, but there's a shuttlebus if you prefer). The taxi ride in Belfast was interesting and very sad to hear first-hand from those involved in the protests. (You have the option in Belfast of either touring the Titanic Museum or doing the taxi ride.) Note that there are no complete breaks for meals - just grab breakfast and lunch and eat on the bus. This is a 13 1/2 hour bus tour, but it's worth it. I think there were 60 people on the bus, and no bathrooms, but we had breaks every 2 hours or so.
My wife and I thoughtfully enjoyed the this trip. The two people that directed it (Kim the tour guide) and Damo (the bus driver could not have been more helpful). l. They provided excellent information and background stories and kept us entertained. Kim provided other help in terms of the city and restaurants and helped us with anything we asked. Damo did a super job in driving through difficult streets (he also did a great job the next day on our Cliffs of Moore trip). We took the Black Cab trip which was very informative. I would highly recommend anyone to take this tour.
It was wonderful! We had a great time and the guides were wonderful in Belfast and the Giant's Causeway. Belfast was very interesting and we had great weather at the Giant's Causeway which allowed us to really explore the area and see the hexagonal formations!
I was fully satisfied with this tour and highly recommended to tourist. Our tour guide was marvelous, informed us the next step of our journey. Suggestion to travelers for your convenient, you need to bring enough food and water in your bag.
13 hours, most of it on a bus. Sounds like a nightmare, but it was well worth it. 700 km of beautiful scenery, and comprehensive history of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the relationship complexity. We learned so much. The small group (4-5) tours within Belfast with people who lived through the "troubles" was touching and like nothing I've ever seen on a tour before. The Giant's Causeway and rope bridge parts of the day were outstanding outdoor hikes with beautiful scenery. Our tourguide Noel and driver Pete were a fantastic pair. THey both clearly love what they do and it shows. Noel went out of his way to walk with us on our hikes and tell more stories and history. He also gave us great restaurant and pub recommendations that we followed--he was right. Maybe the best tourguide we've ever had.
Fantastic tour! Our family enjoyed the tour. Seeing the Giant’s Causeway was truly amazing and walking across the rope bridge was exhilarating. The tour guides were very informative and humorous. We highly recommend this tour to anyone travelling to Ireland!
Murphy and Damo were great guides as they took us to Belfast, Giant's Causeway and a rope bridge. Murphy provided a lot of good information and kept the long drive interesting. He also let people relax/doze on the way home. We took the black cab tour in Belfast and it was very informative and helpful to learn about the history of the conflict there. It really helped to put things in perspective and even understand the concerns that face the area today. Giant's Causeway is a really neat natural creation and the legends that they tell about its formation are a lot of fun. The rope bridge was fun to cross even though it rained on us during the 1K walk out there and back.
Although it was a very long day, the breathtaking scenery and adventures through Giant's Causeway and Northern Ireland made it all worthwhile! The excursion was very well organized, and our guide, Murphy, was extremely knowledgeable, and also very entertaining. Kudos as well to our driver, Paulo, who kept us right on schedule the entire day. One of the highlights was the intimate "black cab" tour my wife and I chose to do when we reached our destination in Belfast. I highly recommend this if you want some insights into the city that only a local resident can provide. A truly wonderful and informative experience overall, but be prepared for a long day of walking/hiking. A good pair of walking shoes or hiking boots is a must!!
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour to Belfast and Northern Ireland. The bus was comfortable, there were plenty of stops to stretch, use restrooms and get food (trip was 13 hours, so these are important). The tour of Belfast with a local taxi driver was fascinating and eye-opening as to the political strife that still exists in this city. The bus guide gave very interesting history and there was a good balance of humor, information and relaxing music. The Giant's Causeway is astonishing and well worth the trip! Would recommend this tour to see the North.
Tara and Sarah are the best! We were on the “good looking bus”. Our group had such a great time, due in part to glorious weather. But mostly due to our driver, Sarah and tour guide, Tara. They made everything such fun! Plus being super knowledgeable. The rope bridge, the Causeway, and the black taxi tour of Belfast were all special and we had the right annoying of time for each.
Would highly recommend this tour,it was very informative and well organized. Service was spot on and the staff very friendly.
Loved this tour! Giant’s Causeway was breathtaking! Black cab tour was an eye opener and very informative. Well run by Tara and Sidney
excellent host Anthony and driver Pete. Very informative and always knew what to expect next on trip. Anthony has done these trips many times and his expertise comes in handy. Excellent company to deal with.
I took the tour on Friday and our guide was amazing! Name started with and M. Shawn the bus driver was a safe driver. The tour was full of great sights, but my favorite was the black cab tour. I have a better understanding of what is going on in the area. I thought it was educational and insightful and would highly recommend it!
Great tour, our guide Anthony was exceptional. Highly recommend it. Giants Causway was awe inspiring.
Excellent value. If you take this tour, definitely choose the Black Taxi ride. Our driver Joe, was personable, informative and a joy to have as a guide. Giant's Causeway is a wonder! Could have stayed there for hours! Highly recommend this tour!
The castles i could have not seen and still loved this trip , the guide was fantastic and the country side was just breathtaking
Fantastic trip. Very engaging. Fun, educational, Informative and entertaining. Guide and driver really worked hard to make sure everyone got the most out of the trip. Beautiful place. Thanks Noel and Pete
Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Belfast, Dunluce Castle and the Giant's Causeway. The castle was an added bonus as the rope bridge we were scheduled to visit was closed. The substitution was brilliant and should really be part of the tour. Belfast black cab ride with our incredible cabbie who lived through "the conflict" and graciously shared his experiences was riveting. This is LIVING HISTORY at its best. If you have an opportunity to take this tour...don't miss it.
Long day but worth it. Tanya and Jack were great. But was too crowded and pretty hot but other than that it was a good day.
This was a well paced excursion. It does not include a lunch stop but they do stop for bathroom breaks where you can purchase sandwiches and snacks. The guide was very informative and entertaining. I did the Black Taxi option and was very happy with that decision. It's very eye opening and insightful.
Good value for. your money, Anthony the guide and Paddy the driver were very very good. The only reason I didn't get this 5 stars is because there was no free wifi on the bus and no phone chargers.
