Good value for the trip, Johnny was a great guide. Horses are gentle and know the path well, so easy to ride but not a good fit if you are looking to ride in open spaces. Some great views and good instruction at the stables. Glendalough was a bonus and a good place to grab a cup of coffee and recharge before the ride back to Dublin.
Although stables staff were nice, especially Fingers the stables dog, we were disappointed with the very rustic horse stable facilities with dirty, worn out helmets and boots and a filthy "toilet". The rest of the tour was just okay. We had taken a GREAT tour the day before with Irish Rail Tours the day before, and the quality of the Hilltoptreks tour was definitely much lower. Spend a little more with Itish Rail Tours and get a lot more!
After a slight scheduling hiccup in the morning, everything was incredible. We were dropped off at the stables, then provided with riding boots and a helmet. We mounted our horses, then had a quick lesson (i'm an advanced rider, but my sister is a beginner and the lesson was very helpful for her). We then went out for a trail ride which was about 1.5-2 hours through the gorgeous wooded area behind the stable. Joe led us, he was so wonderful, he took photos for us, took us trotting and told us all about the history of the area! We were then picked up and taken to the neighboring town for lunch. In the afternoon we stopped at several breathtaking landmarks, then made it back to dublin for dinner!
We were picked up at the Molly Malone statue by Robert. The bus was nice and clean. Robert told us about places we were passing by and the history. He explained our timetable so we knew what to expect. He dropped some off for a walking tour while a few of us went to the horseback ride. Whichever we choose was beautiful. Then we went to Poppys restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Then we off to visit more gorgeous sites. It was a beautiful sunny day and we all had a terrific day. Thank you Robert!
