About this activity
We leave the capital behind at 8.45am and drive west with views of Linlithgow Palace before visiting Doune Castle. Known as one of Scotland’s best preserved medieval castles, it was also used as a setting for Castle Leoch in Outlander. You’ll have time to explore this historic stronghold which also featured as Winterfell in Game of Thrones and Monty Python’s Holy Grail.
Our journey takes us on to the Kingdom of Fife, an area of great historical importance and the ancestral home of Scottish monarchs. We make a stop at Culross, where Claire was accused of witchcraft in the village of ‘Cranesmuir’. This charming village is the most complete example of a 17th and 18th-century burgh in Scotland today.
Our lunch stop will be in the village of Falkland, used for filming 1940’s Inverness. With over 28 listed buildings it gives a good representation of this period. Our journey continues to another iconic Outlander sites, Dysart Harbour used as the French port of Le Havre in season two before our final stop at Midhope Castle, the real-life Lallybroch, arriving back in Edinburgh early evening.

I enjoyed the tour very much. It is just a shame that we could not have had more time at some of the stops but I understand. The bus was comfortable and the driver, Duncan very friendly and knowledgeable. I referred someone else to the tour but it was already full.
This was a fabulous tour that we would definitely take again! My only complaint is that one stop that was listed here was not made on the actual tour.
Everything about the Outlander tour was more than I'd expected. Tom, our driver/guide, was so entertaining and knowledgeable, and kept everything interesting during drive time between locations. Every Outlander location was wonderful, but the two that really touched me most were "Castle Leoch and "Lallybroch" Amazing!
As a fan of history and Outlander, I enjoyed the day tour. Our leader and excellent bus driver, Fiona provided a fresh perspective on Scottish history and popular culture. My only complaint was timing which is set by headquarters and not by the tour guide. We spent way too much time at Dounne Castle and not enough time in Culross. The times could have easily been switched. Also more lunch time in Falkland would be helpful. Otherwise very, very enjoyable.
Fiona was awesome, entertaining and informative. The sites were super interesting. The lunch stop was too short!!! Impossible to get lunch at a sit-down-and-be-served-cafe, which is all that was available to us in Falkland - without being terribly rushed. Only 8 minutes to look around the town. Lunch needs to be 90 minutes. Culross stop was also too short. Difficult for my 82-year-old dad to walk to the places he wanted to see in the time allowed. 15 min needs to be added to this stop.
