The Georgian House
Variable
About this activity
You know about kilts, whisky, and haggis, but how much do you know about the Scots who enjoyed them all (and more) in the 19th century? Explore the Georgian House for a renovated reflection of the social, financial, and intellectual status of wealthy inhabitants of Edinburgh's posh 'New Town'. Visit different rooms, chat with guides, and engage in a unique history lesson as you go!
This beautiful Georgian House in Edinburgh's New Town was built in 1796 for John Lamont, the 18th Chief of the Clan Lamont. With a title like that, we bet he had a huge kilt collection as well as plenty of money.
With this ticket you can see the way he and other high society citizens must have lived in Auld Reekie. Chat with the knowledgeable guides as you go - they're a wealth of information.
Visit the drawing and dining rooms where whisky-sipping guests were once entertained by the Lamonts (they lived here until 1815). See the parlor and master bedroom. Feast your eyes on original paintings, silverware, china, and furniture, then head downstairs to see how the staff lived, in far humbler - yet still pretty cozy - conditions.
This Robert Adam masterpiece is the perfect place to step back in time for a taste of the old Scottish highlife!
