About this activity
Choose this 2.5 hour walking tour in Florence! You will discover the beauty of Florence at one of the best times of the year: Christmas! The streets and squares will be adourned with Christmas lights and will be even more welcoming with the sound of yuletide melodies.
Your expert guide will explain the history of the city and show you the wonders of the Renaissance in a journey through the key masterpieces of Florentine architecture.
Two large fir trees will be placed at the Duomo and Piazzale Michelangelo, and there will be lights along the avenues and adourning ancient doorways. Moreover, on December 8th, the Christmas illuminations will be officially inaugurated, signalling the beginning of the festive period.
You will start the tour in Piazza Santa Croce, surrounded by Christmas markets, near the church which contains Michelangelo's tomb. After exploring the city centre, with its marvellous Christmas decorations, you will stop on the Ponte Vecchio and feast your eyes on the heart-stopping view over the hills that encircle Florence.
Strolling through the Christmas markets, with their smells and typical products from many different parts of the world, will give you special emotions as you enjoy some of Tuscany's finest specialities.
Then you will walk past the Town hall and the spectacular Loggia in Piazza della Signoria; this is the political heart of Florence. On one side, you will enjoy the renowned Uffizi Gallery, once the Great Duke’s headquarters, and then admire Palazzo Vecchio, the historic seat of the Florentine Government.
The tour continues to the old market where “Il Porcellino”, a statue of a wild bar, will bring you good luck if you rub his nose. You will see Piazza della Repubblica and visit the magnificent Cathedral; the church features perfectly preserved, unique marble engravings, and is capped by Brunelleschi’s beautiful dome, a miracle of architecture and symbol of the Renaissance movement in Florence due to its daring design and even more challenging realization.
The walking tour ends at San Lorenzo Market, where you can have lunch or enjoy the colourful stalls. It is strongly suggested that you take this tour on the first day of your stay in Florence, and that you don't take any other tour on the same day. Kids get easily tired and so do parents sometimes after such a rich and comprehensive experience as this. The whole family will love this unbelievable tour in a special Christmas atmosphere.
