About this activity
Day 1: Florence – Venice
Make your own way to Santa Maria Novella Station in central Florence to meet your host. Receive your round-trip train ticket, vaporetto ticket, hotel details and information about train times, and then leave your host to catch your train and travel to Venice independently.
Train journeys between the two cities can last up to 2.5 hours, but your high-speed train shuttles you into the heart of Venice in just 2 hours. On arrival in the city, check in to your hotel, and then head out to explore! How you spend your time in beautiful Venice is up to you. Entrance fees to attractions, activities and any meals are at your own expense, but a Vessel vaporetto ticket is included so you can travel on any public water buses.
Perhaps take a walk around St Mark’s Square to see St Mark’s Basilica and the imposing Doge’s Palace, or visit Rialto Bridge, the marble masterpiece that straddles the Grand Canal. In the evening, maybe enjoy an iconic Venice experience by taking an evening gondola ride around the canals, or follow the lead of locals to the cicchetti bars and discover the Venetian’s answer to tapas!
Overnight: 3- or 4-star hotel in central Venice
Day 2: Venice – Florence (B)
After breakfast in your hotel, enjoy a full day at leisure to continue your fun in Venice. Check out is in the late morning, but you can store your luggage at the hotel for the day, if you wish.
Like many other Italian cities, Venice is rich with culture so perhaps start your day with a visit to one of its world-class museums such as the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. If you want to venture further afield, why not visit the nearby islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello? Each island has its own personality and appeal; Murano is known for its glass, Burano is the home of Venetian lace and Torcello boasts a large nature reserve as well as spectacular Byzantine mosaics inside the Cathedral of Santa Maria Dell'Assunta.
Make sure you leave enough time to make your way back into Venice for your journey back to Florence. Board your train at Santa Lucia Station in the early evening, and then travel back to Santa Maria Novella Station in Florence, where your independent experience finishes.

beautiful had to go, glad I went high speed train was an excellent travel option
Very smooth, easy to follow instructions for train times and locations of water taxis etc provided by the agent. The only negative we would have is the location of the hotel used and the price.
From meeting the rep at Florence Station to the return trip was fantastic. Venice is beautiful, the weather was great and the hotel Ca' Dei Conte was central and fabulous. Would recommend this trip to anyone. Also included the water boat which we used. Bellisimo!
The greeting at the train station was less than expected. The train ride was wonderful considering we were riding coach. Coach to first class on Italian trains is negligible. There is no-one to greet you on the receiving end so be comfortable in finding your way around. The hotel was adequate but certainly not the 4 star we had hoped for. A bit of a funky smell. Venice is absolutely worth the effort. Despite the hosts and hotel, I would recommend you take the plunge. The atmosphere and gastronomical experience is worth the trip. Try to eat at the Taverna La Fenice.
