About this activity
Join an art historian guide and a group of no more than 15 people for a walk through Florence's Palazzo Vecchio and a step back in time. You'll spend a few hours getting to know the history behind the city's iconic town hall ― the heart of antiquity and center of Florence's civic power for over seven centuries.
Your tour includes direct access to the spectacular excavations being undertaken just below this 13th-century building's foundations, including the surviving remnants of the Roman theatre of Florentia, which once stood here. Enjoy your guide's expert knowledge while viewing these remains and feeling history spring to life around you.
Next, continue to the Palazzo Vecchio's first floor for a visit to the awe-inspiring Salone dei Cinquecento, an imposing hall originally built to house Florence’s 500 member Grand Council. Marvel at its breathtaking 16th-century frescoes, incredible marble and bronze sculptures, and the hall's sheer magnificence before moving on.
Finally, you'll have an opportunity to visit the palazzo's Arnolfo Tower, a 312-foot (95-meter) structure that's one of the Florence skyline's main focal points. The tour includes a climb into the tower's uppermost battlements, where you can enjoy spectacular 360-degree city vistas and incredible photo ops.

The guide was very well intentioned, knowledgeable and sweet but conditions were not favorable. It was afternoon and there were way too many groups and lots of boisterous kids. The ear sets were AWFUL; all I could hear was her breath. She asked a lot of rhetorical questions which was tricky since we really wanted to just see and hear about art. Accoustics were worst distraction! Too bad!
If you decide to go here make sure you bring water, there is no air conditioning and a lot of people may be packed in as well. Be ready to climb stairs. Other then that the description is spot on for this tour.
Well worth the time to be able to enjoy the history with this tour.
This was an amazing tour! The guide was wonderful and knowledgeable. Not only were we given information about the Palazzo Vecchio, but also the history of Florence. I did this tour my first day in Florence, and would not have done it any other way.
Out tour guide did an amazing job, but she seemed a little frustrated that we had 34 in the group. It was defiantly not limited to the 15 as advertised on the website. Fortunately we had a radio so we could hear her. The church and palace are definitely a must see.
