Let’s start your tour with a remain older than 1,300 years. This place used to be the reception hall to welcome ambassadors from foreign countries. The excavated traded goods show the history of the international port city: Fukuoka.

You will move on to the center of Fukuoka castle. You will learn how the castle was like from an old map and a reconstructed model! You will be surprised how powerful the government was by the large area governed by the lord of Fukuoka castle. Let’s find your hotel on the old map!

There used to be huge controversy over how Japan should deal with foreign countries 150 years ago. Fukuoka used to be an international city so the controversy had a huge impact on this place. The lord of the castle must have struggled while looking at the city from the castle.

Hakata-ori, the traditional handcraft of Hakata has its origin in China. This technique was imported from China 800 years ago and adopted in a Japanese way. You can watch how experienced craftsmen make Hakata dolls!

Walk through this beautiful gate and let”s start your tour to discover the culture imported from foreign cultures! Not only the gate itself but also the stone paving you see after walking through the gate that is beautiful!!

Stop At: Shofuku-ji Temple, 6-1 Gokushomachi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka 812-0037 Fukuoka Prefecture

A temple where “sencha”: green tea is originated from. Green tea is essential to modern Japanese life but it is a foreign culture brought into Japan! The peaceful premises itself is also beautiful!

A traditional tea shop with a history of longer than 300 years. Let's have a cup of green tea and look back the spots and information you learned on the tour!
