Depart Funchal and travel through the fishing villages in the south of the island, passing Cape Girão to see the 589-meter vertical drop to the sea. Get a glimpse at life on the island at Ribeira Brava, and then ascend Encumeada for breathtaking views of the deep valley and mountains.
Continue up to the Paul da Serra plateau to encounter a straight road that contrasts with the winding roads of the rest of Madeira. Compare the southern and northern part of the island as you take in the panoramic views.
