About this activity
At the arranged time, your tour begins with a pickup from your Funchal hotel or from the cruise port. Greet your guide, board the air-conditioned minivan, and begin a drive of about 10 minutes to the first stop.
Upon arrival at Pico dos Barcelos, take the time to admire the views over the bay and city of Funchal at an elevation of 1,165 feet (355 meters).
Next, head for Nuns Valley, a small village nestled between mountains in the middle of the island. Listen as your guide explains how this village was founded by nun's fleeing pirates in the 16th century, and how its unique location, surrounded by cliffs, makes it very isolated. Here you can find an excellent viewpoint called Eira do Serrado at an elevations of 3,590 feet (1,095 meters).
Next, head in the direction of Cabo Girão, situated on the highest promontory in Europe, at 1,900 feet (580 meters), known for its suspended glass platform.
The tour ends with a visit to Câmara de Lobos, the so-called 'land of the fisherman,' who fish for the black scabbardfish.
Your tour concludes with a drop-off in Funchal.

Excellent guide Nelson who really went above and beyond. Highly knowledgable, very friendly. Itinerary was solid and well thought-out.
We were picked up from the port by Emmanuel in a very new and comfortable minibus. We had an excellent tour around Funchal as we headed for the Nuns Valley with stop offs for photo opportunities. Emmanuel was extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer any queries we had. There was only the 4 of us so it was very personal and relaxed and taken at our own pace with plenty of time allowed at the various stops. A brilliant trip and I would highly recommend it.
