Discover Hamburg walking tour
From a little fort to one of the most important ports of the world, Hamburg has plenty of stories to tell. Discover them and the main attractions of town with this guided walking tour!
Strolling through the Old Town of Hamburg, you will see the lovely 19th century neo-renaissance City Hall and the characteristic facades of the historic Deichstraße. Get to know how the Great Fire of 1842 is connected to the Deichstraße and how it led to the construction of the characteristic red brick “Kontor House” buildings. At the St. Nikolai Church your guide will introduce you to the darkest days of German history. Once a stunning example of neo-gothic architecture in Europe, the church was destroyed during air raids in 1943. Its tower and ruins stand now as a memorial for the victims of WWII.
The tour finishes in the most beautiful corner of town, in the Speicherstadt. The first UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hamburg is home to historic warehouses, which used to store anything that was shipped to the Hanseatic city before it made its way to the rest of Europe. Nearby is the new landmark of Hamburg, the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, which you can visit for free after the tour.
