5:00 am – Hotel pick-up
5:30 am – Start tour at Long Bien Bridge, overlooking Long Bien market. Introduction to the tour and overview of camera settings. Focus on Establishing shot and use of Shutter Priority, capturing trains coming into Long Bien station.
6:30 am – Wander through alleyways leading into the Old Quarter and underneath the railway line to Phung Hung Street. Here the photographic emphasis is on capturing life around and under the tracks, the businesses and activities that spring up on the embankments and bridges that support the railway. Technical focus – S and A mode and different ISO settings to capture activity.
7:45 am – Quick tea break and review of shots taken so far.
8:00 am - The group continue along the tracks to Dien Bien Phu Street and beyond, into the residential areas that lie along the tracks in this part of town. There is a focus now on capturing daily life in relation to the railway – different ways to build a photographic story around a physical theme. Colm passes on tips such as ‘shooting without looking’ and ‘creating the place’.
9 am - We stop for breakfast at our café / photography gallery Zoom, with time to select pictures for a 3 photo story on life around the tracks.

Really nice tour! Helped me learn a lot about tequiniqes and it was good chance to blend in with local life. I was lucky as that morning I was the only participant, so it was like a private tour. William holding the tour was very helpful.
